Bahaismiarn:

The Excellency Bab: “I don’t know about sciences!”

Mr. Abbas Amanat (is a member of a Baha’i family) is one of the contemporary historians who is living in the west. His attachment to Bab and Baha is obvious in his book called “Qebleh Alam”

This Baha’i historian (in the report of the negotiation between the scholars of Tabriz and Bab) has called Ali Muhammad Bab as “prophet”, “the attractive Seyyed from Shiraz” and “attractive young figure” who “was telling good news about the new era”! He has also called Bab as “the predicting pious person” who “was challenging the sources of religious authority! (Additionally, he wasn’t paying attention to the fact that Bab wasn’t able and didn’t dare to challenge with the scholars and the scholars challenged him.)

He called Bab’s confess (in the assembly of scholars) concerning his unawareness of the sciences of that time as “an honest confess”! As you know the tone of the word “honesty” naturally decreases the negative reflection of the matter in the readers’ minds. He has also misused the words like “belief inspections” and “sarcasm and cursing of sarcastic derisions” in his book! In his book, he has displayed a negative image from Mulla Mahmoud Nezamul Ulama (the prince Mulla Bashi and the brave winner of arguing between Bab and him in Tabriz assembly) since several previous pages of the book!

Using positive sentences for Bab’s speech and behaviors along with presenting a negative and black image from the opposite side are putting the reader in a special mental atmosphere in favor of Bab and weakening the readers’ abilities to judge scientifically and fairly. This process isn’t merited for an impartial scientific work and research.

The historian has also called miracle -which is done by the prophet – as magic: “In Naseruddin’s childish assumption which was influential just when he was able to succeed at that miracle and magic trial…”. During the event report, he is narrating from Bab who has said to Tabriz scholar that “he is the very Imam of the Time, the promised Mahdi for whom people are waiting for one thousand years.”

Then, Amanat writes about Bab and scholars negotiations:

“The scholars bombarded Bab with these questions: questions about Arabic syntax and conjugation, the interpretation of traditions, legitimate issues and Quranic verses’ reasons of sending down … Hippocrates’s medicine and the influence of four temperaments on each other.” Then, Bab confessed he hadn’t been familiar with those sciences. The confession made the scholars more presumptuous. The scholars’ humor and contempt were enough for the government order to be fulfilled and prevent people to be attracted to Bab.”

It is better for authors and particularly the historians to love and write truth more than private motives. They must write and recount the true events not to please Bab and Baha’s lovers!!!
