POLICE seized 42 cartons of beer when they raided a residential property in the Baha’i area, last Thursday evening.
Acting city police commander Vincent U’upwe said his officers also seized loose cans of chilled beer and mixed spirits.
Two suspects, a male and a female, were arrested.
A third suspect, according to Mr U’upwe, was identified ;but police cannot arrest her because she’s currently breast-feeding.
“But we will deal with her separately,†Mr U’upwe said.
He added up to 40 officers were involved in the operation.
“The 42 cartons of beer seized were just from one house. Other houses the officers entered they found no alcohol in there at the time of the raid.â€
“Perhaps they’ve removed them already or have not purchase any new stocks at that time.â€
Mr U’upwe said police will continue to carry out its operation targeting illegal beer out-lets during the festive season.
“I wish to warn those who are in this business to know that the long arm of the law will come looking for them,†Mr U’upwe said.
“I therefore wish to ask the public to cooperate and avoid engaging in illegal activities such as the sale of beer during this time.â€
“The police will ensure that illegal beer outlets are targeted in its operation.â€
He also appealed to members of the public who may have witness or see suspicious activities in their neighborhood to alert the police.
“Police will not be everywhere, every time ;so we ask the public to assist by reporting crimes they may see or come across within their communities,†Mr U’upwe said.
He wished the public and other stakeholders a merry Christmas and happy new year.
