Question and Answers
Bab repents
Bahaismiran:
Q: based on the prince Naseruddin Mirza’s report, Ali Muhammad Shirazi was given bastinado and he guaranteed not to commit such guilt. Did he repent his claims? Was he bound with his commitment?
A: When the debate finished, Sheikhul Islam was called to beat Bab with a stick. While he was being beat, he was asking forgives and repenting. So, he himself was to write a letter of repentance. This letter of repentance is the most important document indicating Bab’s claims were baseless. This letter has been confirmed by the Baha’is themselves.
Bab’s letter of repentance
Mirza Taqi Khan Lesanul Molk explans exactly: “… Naseruddin Mirza, the prince, turned to Ali Muhammad Shirazi and said I don’t kill you because you are a madman. I will order to give you bastinado in order for ordinary people to know you aren’t the promised Mahdi and nobody in the world can dominate him. He said this statement and ordered to beat Bab with a stick. Bab shouted and said I confess my fault. I’ll never repeat my claims.â€[1]
