Monotheism and the Baha’is

We, the children of Prophet Adam (PBUH), while doing some soul-searching, quickly realize our nihility

and weaknesses.

On reflecting further, we become fully aware that whatever we possess, is due to the Benevolence and

Courtesy of God. It is also very clear that the Lord Almighty, whenever HE wishes, can take away

whatever HE has granted us. We have come across many such people in our lives who have experienced

this.

It is quite possible that in a matter of few days we lose our wealth, health, respect, strength and

happiness. The wealthy would like to think that his fortune assures security but, the fact is whenever

God wants, HE can take away the wealth, how much ever hard he tries to save it.

You may have perhaps experienced it in your life. On some days you are overloaded with work and

there is an air of optimism that you will accomplish the tasks by the end of the day. You chart out a plan

to meet your target and there is a sense of inner happiness as you go about things when suddenly you

are struck by illness and you can’t even get off the bed. These moments provide a reality check on your

powers and abilities and get a sense of God’s Power.

If we do an honest study of our self, we fully understand that everything we possess — the wealth and

its security — is in the All-Powerful hands of God. Keeping this in mind, if a mere mortal like us, with all

his clear weaknesses and short-comings, rises and proclaims, “I am your mighty lord” it hits you in the

head and comes across as a sick joke. How can we accept that a mortal like us, who cannot assure his

own well-being, provide us security for life and beyond it?

Is it acceptable that a person who cannot rid himself of his inner impurities, rule the world and its

inhabitants? How can a person, who doesn’t have the strength to take a breath of his own will, own the

lives of all the creatures?

Despite these irrefutable truths, history throws up names of individuals who went on to claim godhood.

The characteristics of the prophet:

There were a few things common in the 124,000 prophets sent by God. One thing which stands out is

their common cry: Serve your Lord and shun evil. They were all unanimous in this belief. In Tashahud,

we recite for Last Prophet (PBUH): I bear witness that Muhammad is a servant and messenger of God.

On similar lines we see a narration from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): Don’t place me over my rank.

Undoubtedly God has made me His servant before He made me His Messenger. (Uyoon Akhbar pg 200).

If this is the condition of Prophet Muhammad (PBH), it only puts in perspective the position of other

prophets.

Holy Quran describes Prophet Jesus (PBUH) in following manner:

He (Jesus) said: I am indeed a servant of Allah: He hath given me a book (Bible) and made me a prophet.

(Maryam 30).

And: (Jesus) has been bestowed with miracles and has been made a precedent for the

nation of Israel (to follow).

(Zukruf: 36)

The sum of this is: that the Prophets repeatedly call themselves as creations of God, then how is it

possible that someone who has been sent in this world by the Creator possibly declare themselves as

god? Thus, based on this it is incumbent that the religion which claims to be a divine one, should first

strengthen its belief in God, which is a yardstick for good and evil and follow its teachings.

It should not be forgotten that all divine representatives of God, would with one voice talk about

worshipping God. For example: Prophets Noah, Hud (Heber), Shoaib (Jethro), Abraham, Moses, Jesus

(peace be upon them all) and Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (PBUH) were the flag-bearers of

monotheism. God Himself says in Holy Quran: And certainly We raised in every nation an apostle

saying: Serve Allah and shun the evil.

To conclude, monotheism is the base of religion. And if a bunch of materialistic people gather and claim,

“We are the owners of a divine religion which is called as Baha’ism and also argue that the arrival of

their religion has abrogated Islam,”

1.   before seeking the truth of their claims we should first see what is stance on monotheism. If it indeed is a religion, then it should be based on belief in One God. On the contrary we find that their founder himself had declared himself as god not once but on many occasions.

2.   There is no God but I the Honoured , the Wise. (Aqdas, page 43)

3.   Accept whatever is commanded by Baha (himself) the Lord of Eternity. (Aqdas, page 144)

4.   We have sent down all the Messengers and we have revealed all the Books. (Aqdas, page 8)

5.   The Master of Eternity lies in prison. (Istadaaraat, page 34)

6.   All save me are created from my command. (Tablets, page 217)

7.   Bahaullah writes – “All praise is for you O Bahaullah, the Creator of existence.” (Al-Mubeen, page 34)

8.   Obey the commands of your Elevated, Splendorous God, Bahaullah. (Al-Mubeen, page 190)

9.   Again in Al-Mubeen,he refers to himself “You Most beneficent Lord, Bahaullah&quot”. (Al-Mubeen, page 297)

10.          Bahaullah decrees, “Most surely I am Allah. There is no God save me. I am the Lord of everything. The O my creatures, you worship me alone.” (Tajalliyat, Tajalli 4, page 5)

11.          Abdul Baha writes : Bahaullah is unique, Incomparable. It is necessary for everyone to turn towards Bahaullah in his prayers. (Badaaiul Aasaar, page 139)

12.          Bahaullah writes to his son Abdul Baha, “This is a letter from Allah, the Honoured and the Wise (Bahaullah) to Allah the Gracious, the Aware (Abdul Baha)” This is interesting – “one God greets another one!” (Maftoon, page 15)

It’s astonishing that this very Mirza Mohammad Ali Bab calls Mirza Husain Nuri as “mighty lord”

Anyone with little knowledge of Holy Quran knows the above words are mentioned in the chapter of

Naziyat, in which Pharoah is quoted as saying: And he said I am your mighty lord. And it was this very

claim which resulted in his downfall.
