Letter to Moojan Momen, the Editor of the article, Religion
Written by Super UserDear Editor:
In Moojan Momen’s article “Marginality and Apostasy in the Baha’i Community,” I was mentioned as one of twelve former Baha’is “identified as apostates,” who have launched “a prolonged campaign against the Baha’i community.” Momen claims that all twelve of us “share an obsessive hatred of their former religious community… a form of envious rage,” and are “engaged in a continuous chain of acts of revenge” against the Baha’i Faith.

Baha'i cyberspace is abuzz with the latest article to come out in *Religion*, writen by Moojan Momen, called "Marginality and Apostasy in the Baha'i Community". It is, apparently, the long-awaited rebuttal to the many academic articles and books published by ex and unenrolled Baha'is. Since I'm one of the "apostates" named, it's probably appropriate that I respond. (Alison Marshall and Umm Yasmin have already commented on Baha'is Online.
Yesterday, to my amazement, I found out that Moojan Momen had written an article called "Marginality and apostasy in the Baha’i community" and had it published in the prestigious academic journal "Religion". The citation is Religion 37 (2007) 187—209. The astonishing thing for me is that I am one of 12 people he discusses as being 'apostates'. Moojan says that we're all full of ressentiment. He doesn't name Michael McKenny or Sen McGlinn as apostates, despite their disenrollments, because they don't have any ressentiment.
Who Is a Baha'i Apostate? Are Ex-Baha'is Obsessive, Hateful and Vengeful?
Written by Super UserResponses to the Claims of Baha'i Author Moojan Momen
Dr. Moojan Momen is a well-known Baha'i who is the author of an introductory book about the Baha'i Faith, and has also published some academic papers and other writings. In an article published in the academic journal Religion in 2007, Momen makes some inaccurate and inflammatory assertions about ex-Baha'is and Baha'is who have left the organized Baha'i community. In this article, "Marginality and Apostasy in the Baha'i Community," Momen identifies 12 individuals as the most noteworthy "apostates" from the Baha'i Faith in modern times. I, Eric Stetson, am on that list.

PART II
It has been mentioned on page 284 of volume of Kavakeb-ud Dorriyeh that the Russian government contacted Mirza Hussein Ali in Amol and promised to provide him with any kind of assistance and cooperation. In practice, the Russian government would observe such a commitment because when he was chased by Nassereddin Shah, the Russian embassy gave him shelter and informed the Iranian officials that the Russian government by no means would accept any harm to him and that he should be completely supported and protected and in case any harm threatens him, the Iranian government would be directly responsible. The relevant peace and tranquility that prevailed after the severe imprisonment of that master, Bahaullah, according to the Divine will was limited and lasted for a short period. Because, the master had not fully felt himself among his family that the Shah ordered his exile. According to the Shah’s decree, Bahaullah had to leave the country within a month. However, he was permitted to go wherever he wished. When the Russian ambassador was informed of the Shah’s decree, begged the master to allow him to provide the required facilities for his transfer to Russia under the patronage and safety of the Russian government. But, the invitation was not accepted by Bahaullah and instead he preferred to depart for Iraq and stay in Baghdad.

Emperor Nikolaevich Alexander II
PART I
The Russian imperialism has no doubt, played an outstanding role in the formative years of Babi schism. Obviously, they would waste no opportunity to fish in troubled waters in a country where foreign forces could easily exhibit themselves. To this end, they would do their best to annihilate the only factor for the solidarity of the nation—religion. On the other hand, since the time of Peter the Great, the founder of imperialist Russia, the Russians in their drive to become the paramount colonial power far superior to their hegemonist rivals, they tried every stratagem to get access to the warm waters of the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea. The basis for the Russian foreign policy in Asia, according to documentary evidence was grounded in Peter the great’s will who had recommended the following points to his successors:

Baha'i Awakening: "I feel like my NSA is asking me to be their puppet in political campaign."
Written by Super UserOnce again I got a letter asking me to call my political representatives regarding a resolution. I don't think this is a good tactic. But more than telling me what to- they also say what "not" to do.
The NSA says:
As this is a telephone campaign, do not send requests in writing, whether by email or otherwise. Further, do not attempt to engage your representative’s or senators’ office staffs in conversation beyond a simple request for cosponsoring the resolutions. Each call should take only a few minutes.
