Bahaismiran:

Although the self-proclaimed prophet of Baha’ism has ordered having two wives to be allowable; but Abdul Baha has presented different and foreign interpretations comparing the commandment of self-proclaimed prophet of Baha’ism. In one place, he has considered polygamy as allowable and in another place he has ordered polygamy as illegitimate contrary to his father’s verbal and practical declaration.

The Excellency Hussein Ali Nouri has said in the book Aqdas:

قَد کَتبَ الله علیکمُ النکاح إیّاکم أن تَجاوزوا عَن الإثنتین و الّذی اقتنع بِواحدة مِن الإمآء استرحت نفسه و نفسها و مَن اتَّخذَ بکراً لِخدمَته لابَأسَ علیه

“God has considered marriage as legitimate for you. Lest you get married with two wives. A person who get married with just one wife, he will relieve both himself and the wife. No problem if a person recruit a virgin girl…[1]

However; as his successor and interpreter, Abdul Baha has presented various and foreign interpretation contrary to the commandment of the self-proclaimed prophet of Baha’ism.

1)   In one place, Abdul Baha has considered polygamy as allowable: “It is asked about polygamy and it is allowable and isn’t forbidden; but it is legitimate[2]…”

2)   In another place, he has considered polygamy as allowable but he has assumed establishing justice among them as a really difficult task: “… I mean polygamy isn’t allowable without establishing justice and justice is really difficult.[3]

3)   In another place, he has also announced polygamy as illegitimate contrary to his father’s verbal and practical declaration:

إعلَمی انّ شریعة الله لا تجوز تعدّد الزّوجات...

“Know that God’s religious law hasn’t allowed polygamy because regulating justice is impossible[4].”
