Recently, some sites claim for Sharaf Shams ring to be belonged to Babism and Baha’ism; although attributing it to the Excellency Ali(P.H.) is doubtful; but according to history the background of it goes back to 7th century A.H. and the Babism and Baha’ism cults have been created in 13th century A.H. Consequently, it is not logical to attribute it to Babism and Baha’ism cults because it goes before the appearance of these cults.
Investigating tradition books shows that Sharaf Shams ring (carving some drawings on yellow Yemen carnelian or yellow paper or cloth) hasn’t been proved and there are many ambiguities. According to traditions and history, at least by 7th century, there isn’t any tradition narrating by the Excellency Ali (P.H.) regarding Sharaf Shams in Shiite books.
In spite of all discussions regarding the originality of it, the reasons for attributing it to Babism and Baha’ism is baseless and weak.
For instance, it is said that because it must be written on Farvardin 19, and the number 19 is holy in Babism and Baha’ism; so it is made by Baha’ism; while 19th of Farvardin has been important for the Muslim astronomers. The day when the sun is located at 19 degree on Hamal (Farvardin) Solar month; of course, special hours in this day is the best position of the sun in the galaxy during the year. Consequently, in traditions, Shraf Shams has been considered in Hamal solar month.[1]
Additionally, it is stated that its star resembles the conquefoll star of Babism while the drawings of stars applied in the holy Imams (peace be upon them) are made by the Jewish… . these claims can’t be accepted by the wise! According to the Shiite sources of religious authorities, Sharaf Shams has been considered invalid[2] and some consider plain sailing if it is applied due to hope and [3].
Thus, it seem even if the Islamic origin of Sharaf Shams is rejected, eventually, it will be considered as non-Islamic sign. However, attributing it to Babism and Baha’ism is a plan by Baha’ism in order to intrigue the public sensitivity on the cult.
