No criticism
Cult answers based on standard responses which are according to cult doctrine and beliefs. Members are expected to repeat and believe such answers. Cult doesn't accept being independent or thoughts which are accompanied by doubt.[1]
When members accepted cult realities as their beliefs, each kind of criticizing thought about leader or group trainings are resolvable.
(rule No.1: All group leader's deeds, movements and speeches are always true.)
Criticizing the leader or group by the members makes group rule questionable. Thus, each kind of criticism is assumed impoliteness and is encountered by unkindness.
Cults responds against even the most temperate criticisms. Instead of challenging with critics' speech correctness, they attack such speech although they are usually true.
Cults pose the following spiritual consequences:
- You won't go to paradise
- God won't be satisfied with you.
- Doubt will lead you to retrogradation.
- You won't be prosperous.
- You prevent others to go to paradise.
- You are weakening other members' faith.
- You are tempting other members and it will make them to fall.
In order to repress the criticizing thought in group, cults attack and insult intelligence, genius and each kind of struggle for independent thought because irrational principles of cult can't tolerate resisting against intellectual investigations; so intelligence, reasoning and logic are being insulted. Non- enlightenment approaches, fear and aversion of intelligence and genius is one of the features of dictatorial regimes - such as Nazi in Germany and Mao in China - and also is one of the characteristics of totalitarian cults.[2]
Most cults are claiming for infallibility of their trainings and assume they are divine. So, they inspire that each kind of criticism and its trainings are:
- always false and are Considered as absolute badness because it is against God.
- disagreeing with the spiritual principles of cosmology or spiritual principle of the universe.
In some cults, belief difference is considered as the satanic Conquering. Criticizing the cults or their training is confirming the one who is influenced by the satanic forces.
Many cults' approaches against the opponents of the cult are as follows: Those who agree with us will be saved and those who are against us or criticize our beliefs and our group leader will not be saved. Similarly, there is reverse judgment in the cults; they won't be judged about the cult. They are being judged based on those who comment about the cults. Those who possess positive idea concerning the cult are considered as good ones and those who dispraise the cult are assumed as fractional and misled ones.
The group thought in cults usually means there is no read thought. Just words and slogans of the group are repeated and the programs are being obeyed.[3]
Jeffrey Schaler [4]writes in the article called cult busting:
"A way for measuring cult nature of a group is that the group ideology is being challenged. We can figure out the group nature by disagreeing with group ideology and that how the group members tolerate the differences in views; especially the views which aim the group ideological center. The cult members are similar to a colony of insects. When their main ideology are being challenged, they will be trouble. Whenever a document is being offered which challenges the truth about group ideology, it is more likely for the cult members to act according to a predictable method; that is, they are being separated or changed into separate sectarian colonies.
The other aspect of a group thought is that is can be called as group feeling; that is, the cult impose for good members to have feelings and understandings. All members must usually possess good feelings all the time and confirm happily that leader and his/her trainings are so surprising and will save the world. They become angry when the group is being criticized; otherwise, all group members are always happy.
The following methods are being used to extinguish the critics by cult groups: persecution, character terror, thought renewal and the independent investigation of truth. Of course, these methods aren't being limited to such an extent. Some cult may use all these methods mentioned-above to extinguish the critics.
